Habitat Patches: Creating Biodiversity Hotspots with Seed

7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
The Nyack Library
Community/Meeting Room

Event Details

Seed collection from naturally occurring native plant populations can be the first step in creating a habitat patch to support the larger ecosystem.  See through eyes of a Seed Collector (Heather Liljengren of NYC Parks) and learn the process of collection, storage and dispersal of genetically appropriate seed.  Sowing seed or propagating native plants will help maintain the genetic diversity and local adaptations of species that are critical for ecosystem function and pollinator survival.  This talk will highlight steps you can take in your own backyard to create a biodiversity hotspot.  Sponsored by the Nyack Seed Exchange.
