Alan Bigelow of Solar Cookers International will provide us with an overview of solar cooking, its rationale, how it works and why it’s important. He will display several types of solar cookers from his personal collection and teach attendees how to build your own.
He will go over SCI’s focal areas and strategic plan:
Advocacy: SCI’s global voice and special consultative status at the United Nations
Research: Establishing solar cooker testing, according to newly-published ISO standards
Strengthen the capacity for solar cooking worldwide: Examples from recent SCI activities in India, Nepal, Haiti and Kenya
He will also go over ways to get involved, locally (yes, you can solar cook in Nyack, NY) and globally, by volunteering with and supporting SCI.
